Last month, a group of WDS attendees got together for the First Annual WDS Charity Brew event at Portland U-Brew and learned about one of Oregon’s greatest exports:
BEER!
Over the course of a few hours, these WDS-ers learned how to brew kolsch, chocolate porter and amber ale. Â While the kolsch was for the brewery. Â The other two beers will be used for the annual fundraiser for Bridgetown Inc. a non-profit that loves people because people matter. Â They develop and sustain relational environments that create movement within groups and individuals to demonstrate love and generosity lived out in the world. Â They provide relief, mobilization and transformation in the city of Portland.
This WDS brew class was put on by Dave Ursillo, who is a lifelong writer and eight-time published author.  He helps creative self-starters “live their leadership” everyday through emotional storytelling, artistry, and the entrepreneurial spirit.  His latest project, The Literati Writers, is an online writing community dedicated to helping writers “live and love” their creative journeys, every step of the way.
The First Annual WDS Charity Brew event raised $1,000 towards a mobile medical clinic for NightStrike.  One of the relational environments Bridgetown Inc. facilitates for members of Portland’s homeless community to hang out, enjoy a hot meal, receive a free haircut, shave, have their feet washed and have their old shoes/clothes/sleeping bags replaced. It is also a chance for volunteers to come down and share in the experience, help serve the needs of the homeless in our community, and more importantly, invest in lives and build relationships with the people they meet.
We are still looking to fundraise $684.18 to make dental services available at NightStrike!
