Guest Post Ultimate Paleo Guide

Earlier this week, a guest post I wrote on hard cider was published on Ultimate Paleo Guide!  Ultimate Paleo Guide is a comprehensive guide to the paleo diet.  Which for those of you who don’t know, includes hard cider, but not beer.  It’s the latest diet to hit the fitness world.  Ultimate Paleo Guide has over 100,000 subscribers so it was a huge honor to write on the blog.  Here’s a little bit about hard cider and the paleo diet:

“Tequila, wine and mead are all paleo friendly.  But so is hard cider.  Quite simple to the “core” (get it?!), hard cider is apple juice, yeast and sugar (honey or brown sugar).  Definitely paleo.  The problem is that commercially made hard cider goes through a pasteurization processes and is made using additional sugars and preservatives.

Here is what to look out for…“

Head over to Ultimate Paleo Guide to read more about The Ultimate Paleo Guide to Paleo Hard Cider – BiteSize Edition to read the rest.

Ultimate Pale Guide is run by my friend Joel Runyon, who does the Impossible.  Seriously, check out his Impossible List.

Hard Cider: Cranberry Edition

Posted on July 2, 2013 · 2 Comments

Last week, I shared with you my go-to basic hard cider recipe.  This week, I’m sharing my favorite alternative version of this recipe, CRANBERRY!

I’ll be honest with you, I don’t like sweet hard ciders.  I’m not much of a sweet drinker in general, I don’t drink soda and I not big into candy.  I think that is why I love cranberry hard cider.  It’s more tart than your average hard cider.  (Or it has something to do with the fact that I love cranberries.  Must come from all those summers I spent growing up on Cape Cod.)

Here’s how you make an amazing cranberry hard cider.

Ingredients:

  • Four gallons of apple juice – this can be from a local farm, grocery store or from concentrate.  Just make sure it doesn’t have any preservatives in it.  (That would kill the yeast.)
  • One gallon of pure cranberry juice.  Same rules as above.
  • 1 packet of champaign yeast

Directions:

STEP ONE:  Sanitize your carboy.

STEP TWO:  Pour in your four gallons of apple juice.

STEP THREE:  Add one gallon of cranberry juice.

STEP FOUR:  Pitch your yeast.

STEP FIVE:  Add your airlock.

STEP SIX:  Relax. relax-drinks

Keep an eye on your carboy and in about a month it should be ready to keg or bottle.  Enjoy!

Home made hard cider is really (I mean) really easy to make. It also seems to be getting trendier and trendier these days. So instead of just joining the crowds and ordering up a nice hard cider. Make your own! You’ll impress your friends and have complete control of what you are putting in your body. Here’s the basic recipe for five gallons of hard cider.  In five easy steps!

Ingredients:

  • 1 packet of champaign yeast

Directions:

STEP ONE:  Sanitize your carboy.
