Lyons Press, an imprint of Globe Pequot Press is proud to announce the November 2013 release of The Brewtal Truth Guide to Extreme Beers: An All-Excess Pass to Brewing’s Outer Limits, by Adem Tepedelen, (Lyons Press, 978-0-7627-9152-1; $19.95, Paperback).
From the author of the “Brewtal Truth” column in Decibel magazine comes The Brewtal Truth Guide to Extreme Beers, the first guide of its type, defining what makes certain craft beers “extremely extreme,” featuring descriptions and ratings of more than a 100 insane beer from around the world—broken down into a handful of specific categories. These are outrageous brews with unusual ingredients, ridiculously high alcohol by volume (ABV), bizarre names and sometimes unsettling flavors.
Not only does the book focus on some of the most interesting and hardcore beers in the world, it also features profiles on craft-beer loving metal musicians and extreme craft beer brewers, making it a highly entertaining read. Setting the scene for what extreme beer is, The Brewtal Truth Guide to Extreme Beers also draws parallels and metaphors from the music scene. Tepedelen includes an explanation of extreme styles and what defines them. Each beer profiled receives an “extreme” rating, tasting notes, information about the beer and what makes it extreme, and a musical pairing selected by the author. There are also numerous entertaining and informative sidebars detailing everything from how these beers are made to the emergent trends in extreme brewing.
Adem Tepedelen won the Michael Jackson Beer Journalism award in late 2008 and shortly thereafter created the “Brewtal Truth” beer column for Decibel magazine. It has appeared in every issue of Decibel since early 2009. He also writes about beer and metal for the magazine’s Deciblog website. Having interviewed Metallica when he was still in high school, he has written about metal for dozens of magazines and websites including Decibel, RollingStone.com, Revolver, Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles, Mojo, Warp, Alternative Press, Guitar World’s Metal Heroes, The Rocket and many others. Adem is a resident of Victoria, BC.

Do you have time between parties on Saturday to go to Green Dragon? Maybe I can meet you before the game.

Yup! It came in the mail a few days ago. I posted a photo on Instagram. Going to read it next week while on vacation. Hand it off to my roommate to read (she writes for Portland Loves Pints) and then we are going to do a give away! Thank you!
