Yesterday, I talked about re-prioritizing my blog. Getting over the fact that it isn’t perfect and being okay with that. The thing is it took me awhile to get use to that idea. Like 40ish days. And while I was wrestling with this concept of launching an imperfect blog I got my butt kicked again. This time in Boston, MA.
When I’m not blogging about beer, I’m the Community Manager at Adaptu, a free online financial website that helps users better understand their finances to help take a more active role in the financial decisions that affect their lives. I engage with the online personal finance community both on Adaptu and else where on the internet. Two weeks ago, I go the opportunity to travel to Boston, MA for Radian6 Social 2011, a conference designed for people who oversee social media programs. Once again, I met a lot of amazing people, learned a ton and got inspired again to get my blog up and running. See a pattern here?
The highlight of the conference was ending up on stage the second day of the conference with Marcel Lebrun, Radian6 CEO and Mitch Joel, author of Six Pixels of Separation. WHAT?!? How did this happen?
Two separate conversations happening on Twitter. One with @lebrun talking about doing a Radian6 home brew series for next year’s Social 2012. Another one with @mitchjoel talking about 24 year olds doing social media marketing. Did I mention my Twitter page, @bite4size, has a link to http://bitesizebrews.com/ which still had that glorious 7 month old Coming Soon post? Butt kicker number two!
In less than two months, I’d had two different experiences pushing me forward in getting my blog up and running. Like yesterday, I’m doing it. Finally.
When was the last time you were pushed to do something great?
Side comment, once again. This post doesn’t really talk about beer directly. But if you are in Boston, MA I would suggest you check out Harpoon Brewery and Sam Adams.

Awesome post. Talk about motivation! That must have been quite a surprise, eh? Glad you had a great time at our inaugural conference and that we provided you with a little (ahem) motivation too!
All the best,

Jenna,
Congrats on pushing through with the launch. You’re right, you just need to start and dig in and get momentum going — perfectionism is a lose-lose game (I should know, as a recovering perfectionist) because you’ll always find things to agonize and scrutinize over, but in the end, it’s better to jump in, take risks, make mistakes, and learn and grow from those opportunities.
Keep rockin!
Dave

Thanks Dave! I like that “recovering perfectionist” – have to use that sometime. See you soon!

Better late than never is what I say!!!
And I was at Harpoon Brewery’s second location in VT on Palm Sunday — what a great place!!!

I REALLY want to go to Harpoon VT someday. I’ve got a blog post coming up later this week about Harpoon Boston. You’ll have to post what you think of Harpoon VT then!

Really cool story, Jenna! You got more publicity before you really started than anyone could hope for! I really like what you’re doing here so far, and I’m excited to see more.
BiteSize says
Thanks Jeff! Definitely excited to see where this blog takes me too!

Hi Jenna,
It was great to meet you and thanks for playing along at Social2011. Your blog looks great.
Cheers,
Marcel

Thanks for pulling me up on stage! I’m working on getting over my fear of public speaking. That was definitely a fun way to face my fear. I sent you an email about brewing a Radian6 series, let me know if you still want to do it.

Bout time!! Looks great – now you just need to keep creating content which is what is hard for me. 🙂

Yeah, I’m working on that too. Memorial Day Weekend threw me off for a bit. Hopefully posting something today.
