I went to Harpoon Brewery for the first time on Leap Day in 2008 to celebrate my friend Ally’s Birthday. What I love the most about Harpoon is that the brewery actually smells like a brewery. Not a lot of people like the smell of beer being made, but I love it! Harpoon doesn’t try to hid the smell and keep visitors in another room for tasting, they embrace it. The tasting room is right inside the brewery. You can watch workers prepare beer while you drink it!
The other cool thing about Harpoon is that it’s located in South Boston, right on the waterfront. If you are just visiting Boston, Southie isn’t usually on the map for places to go. Checking out Harpoon brewery is a great way to explore another section of Boston. On the other hand, if you are attending a work conference or staying at a hotel out by the airport, Harpoon is probably right across the street from you, which means you have no excuse not to check them out.
Jenna’s Tips:
- Try the cider – it’s amazing!
- This brewery gets fruit beers (my personal favorite kind of beer). Even if that isn’t your pint of beer, try one! You’ll be glad you did.
- Make sure you do tasting tour, it’s the best way to try all of Harpoon’s beers, talk to the brewers and meet new people.
Been to Boston, MA? What’s your favorite brewery there?

My favorite beer at Harpoon was their “Leviathan” beer.. it had a hefty ABV% and knocked me and my buddies on our proverbial A’s 🙂

Nice! I don’t think I’ve tried it. But it’s a good tip!

I think Harpoon is okay, but I much prefer Sam Adams and their brewery. Sam Adams has a nice, quick tour at their place that lets you sample 3 of their beers, too.
I laughed when I read your line that says “Try the cider – it’s amazing!” I had a friend that discovered the cider at Harpoon Oktoberfest and he repeated that exact phrase over and over that night! haha

Check out today’s post then Jeff! Between the two tours, Harpoon definitely let us try more beer. But it’s a smaller brewery operation with smaller tours so that might have been why. And yes, their cider is AMAZING! Seriously.

I can’t wait to go to Harpoon in Boston — I’ve only been to the one in VT. It’s nice and tucked away in the countryside so it def feels like a small brewery.
I tried their Summer Beer for the first time on Palm Sunday – I definitely recommend to everyone!

Nice! If you make it to the Boston one soon. Want to do a guest post comparing the two?

Yes!!! (And I need to figure out why when you reply to my comments I’m not getting any sort of notification…)

Are you not getting notifications? Hmmm… wonder if that is a setting issue on my end?
