After brewing beer, my kitchen smells a little funky. Â Personally, I love them smell of beer. Â However, I recognize that other people don’t share my same love for the smell of beer. Â These people include: my mother and my roommate. Â They do like the smell of fresh baked bread. Â I think everyone likes the smell of fresh bread. Â So I take the spent grain from the beer process and bake bread. Â This also makes a great housewarming gift, a six pack of homebrew and a loaf of spent grain bread. Â Here is the recipe I use:
Ingredients:
- 1.5 T. of Yeast
- 1 T. Salt
- 2 C. Water
- 6 C. Flour
- 3 C. Spent Grains
Directions:
- Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water.
- Add salt.
- Mix in the rest of the ingredients.
- Pour the slurry and mix well. Â When it all clings together put on a table top and kneed out. Â You want it smooth but not clingy.
- Put dough back in the bowl. Â Leave it out overnight.
- Kneed again. Â Give it the shape you want the loafs to be and let it rise for another hour.
- Bake for 40 minutes at 400*F. Â It’s done when you tap the loaf and it sounds hallow.
This is a super hearty bread. Â Great warm with butter or covered in honey.
