I have some pretty awesome friends who love beer here in Portland. So when Jesse “Rad” invited me to hang out at a Portland Brewing event last week. I was bummed I couldn’t make it. Tiffany and I already had plans to check out the Oregon Garden Brewfest that same day. Lucky for another group of friends, I was able to pass along the invite to Eric from Portland Off the Wagon. Sounds like he had a great time at the event and learned a little more about Oregon’s commitment to sustainability and craft beer. Portland Brewing and Sandy River Basin Watershed Council team up for good beer and the environment. The ZigZag River Lager is a seasonal release that has gained quite a following in recent years, it’s now moved to being a year-round beer! This light, crisp lager has roots in Czech and German beers. Without the ZigZag River there would be no ZigZag beer or salmon for that matter. It’s one of the only places in the Pacific Northwest where native salmon can swim upstream without encountering any dams or fish ladders. The Sandy River Basin Watershed Council is a small nonprofit that needs both volunteers and dollars to keep up the important work they are doing in keeping our rivers clean and unobstructed from the peaks of the Cascades to the Oregon Coast. With their partnership with Portland Brewing, a portion of all proceeds from the sale of ZigZag River Lager will be donated to the Sandy River Basin Watershed Council.
